About
Hi, I'm Bastian, a third year student from Germany. I’m currently completing a BA Honors in Computer Engineering at UNSW, where I transferred after starting with EE at TU Munich. My academic background is complemented by ongoing research in UNSW's Condensed Matter Physics group, where I've contributed to neutron scattering experiments at the ANSTO nuclear facility studying skyrmion dynamics in Cu₂OSeO₃, performed X-ray diffraction sample alignment, and authored a report on the Swedenborgite compound YBaCo₄FeO₇. Alongside coursework, I completed Stanford Online's Machine Learning and Deep Learning specializations — covering supervised and unsupervised methods, CNNs, RNNs, and sequence models — and worked on the powertrain of UNSW's Formula SAE car with Redback Racing.
In my free time, I like to solve real-world problems through AI integration. To improve my investment strategy, I built NestLeap (nestleap.au), a long-term equity analysis platform that scores roughly 200 large-cap US stocks weekly using Yahoo Finance fundamentals and an LLM-generated narrative, then runs a simulated DCA portfolio benchmarked against the S&P 500; it's deployed on a single VPS using FastAPI, Next.js, and SQLite. I’m also currently working on metriX, a personal finance application for Australian bank accounts that integrates with Basiq, categorises transactions through Gemini, and produces proactive cashflow forecasts and anomaly alerts on top of Supabase, Drizzle, and Next.js 16. Both ideas are evolving solutions to real problems my friends and I were facing, and showcase how AI can help automate repetitive workflows effectively.
